Summary: Looking for an experienced Vice President of Engineering with a background in J2EE application and JBoss Enterprise stack, systems design to lead the development team and help shape the future roadmap for our applications. Experience with healthcare software development will be a significant advantage.
Description: The Vice President of Engineering will be responsible for the design and delivery of our healthcare software applications. The position will entail leading a small, but growing, team of developers as we rapidly scale our applications to meet a growing customer base. Our development team works in an agile scrum environment and requires the VP of Engineering to foster a strong, collaborative team environment and provide technical leadership and project management.
The VP of Engineering serves as a member of the executive team and represents the technical vision and development plans to the Board as well as to external audiences, including standards organizations, customers, and strategic partners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- J2EE/JBoss application systems design based on a multi-tenant software model
- Lead the development team and development projects
- Offer guidance to developers in a scrum/agile environment
- Participate in, and offer guidance to, the Change Control Board/Product Management
- Work collaboratively with quality assurance
- Implementation of software development methodologies that will dramatically improve software quality, compliance, speed-to-market, and leverage emerging technologies that will allow us to remain innovative.
- Drive the creation and architecture of a customer-facing development platform
- Research and integrate third party technologies to enhance the innovative functionality of our applications
- Review business requirements and use cases, and provide feedback to product management on feature specifications
- Assist in product roadmap planning by tracking available development resources and assessing the resources needed to implement proposed specification.
Qualifications:
- 5-10 years of experience as a VP of Engineering or CTO
- Startup experience in leading software development teams, preferably in healthcare/EMR software
- Experience managing diverse teams and enterprise web applications
- Strong data background and skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills with rigorous work ethic, high energy, integrity, inquisitive mind, and the confidence and strength of personality to get things done
- Strong organizational and planning skills, ability to work proactively with other team members and department heads
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Executive level customer facing experience
- Experience with AGILE/SCRUM development methodologies
- Demonstrated ability to independently research, troubleshoot, and resolve complex problems

Description: Work collaboratively with developers of clinical information systems, customers, support staff, and quality assurance in planning and problem-solving issues related to clinical information systems. Coordinate aspects of planning, design, development, training, implementation, communication, and maintenance of our EHR software.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in the planning, development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of our healthcare software applications. These activities may include collection and cataloguing of gathered information, documentation of the process, etc. Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the process involved in these activities.
- Analyze and document workflow using diagrams and concise text to convey information to internal and external staff. Use tools like Visio charts, swimlane diagrams, etc to convey planning information internally and externally.
- Collaborate with internal and external clinical information systems project manager(s) in development efforts, in planning pilot and full implementations of new CIS features, and in processing user feedback and requests.
- Maintain a detailed understanding and working knowledge of our application, its functions and its relationship to other information systems within the enterprise.
- Participate in the process of revising and implementing changes in both the automated and manual components of our application. Respond appropriately to requests and concerns from users or others affected by the system.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of: current trends and issues in healthcare, nursing practice, healthcare informatics, national and state-wide standards and regulations, enterprise policies and procedures as related to clinical practice, and the legal implications of electronic EHR.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: A Bachelor's Degree and formal education as a Registered Nurse is required. Must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of Nursing practices and principles typically gained through graduating from an accredited school of nursing.
- Experience: Minimum of five (5) years' experience in a hospital or comparable health care institution, preferably an OR. Participation in clinical information systems implementation cycle preferred (design team member, trainer, end-user). Experience with word processing and spreadsheets.
- Personal/Professional: Must be knowledgeable of new trends in clinical management and information systems and be able to apply data processing technology for the clinical and physician services areas. Self-starter with good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. Must work well alone and in a team environment.
- Up to 50-75% travel required.
